SEATTLE (AP) — Washington state Auditor Brian Sonntag says his office is looking into the Seattle School District’s sale of a school building for a low offer.
Sonntag told KOMO Radio that taking a lower offer could be justified if the sale followed consistent policies, if there was no conflict of interest, and if there is some benefit to the district, such as the building’s use as a community center.
The Seattle Times raised questions Monday about the 2010 sale of the empty Martin Luther King Elementary School.
The district turned down an offer of as much as $9.7 million from the private Bush School, which wanted the 2 acres for playfields, and sold the site for $2.4 million to the First African Methodist Episcopal, which plans to use it for social services.
