CINCINNATI (AP) — The Chicago Cubs activated right-hander Matt Garza off the 15-day disable list on Monday to start the opening game of a series against the Cincinnati Reds.
Left-handed reliever Scott Maine was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
Garza was scratched from a start on May 22 because of a stiff pitching elbow, and later went on the DL. He was 2-4 in his first nine starts with a 3.72 ERA.
Maine was called up on May 17 and had a 10.29 ERA in seven relief appearances.
