Letter: Christianity part of nation’s history

The Columbian
Published: June 5, 2011, 5:00pm

We had a nice patriotic opening to our church service on May 29. The congregation sang “God of our Fathers,” and “America the Beautiful.”

The choir sang “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and a beautiful young lady sang the National Anthem solo. It was such a great way to observe Memorial Day weekend.

Those four songs tell so much about our United States. Then I thought about how our president once told the world that “we are no longer just a Christian nation.”

How could anyone become president of this great nation and be so ignorant of its history?
