AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas used five pitchers and smart baserunning to beat Kent State 5-0 on Monday and win the NCAA Austin Regional.
The Longhorns (47-16) will host Arizona State in a three-game series in Austin beginning Friday.
Texas got its offense going in the bottom of the first when Tant Shepherd led off with a double and came around to score on a throwing error to give Texas a 1-0 lead. The Longhorns added runs in the third, sixth, seventh and ninth innings.
Sam Stafford (7-2), whose threw 108 pitches Friday night in a win over Princeton, struck out five in 3 2-3 innings for Texas. Corey Knebel, who pitched one inning and got the win against Texas State Sunday, earned his 18th save of the season.
Ryan Mace (5-3) allowed three runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings for the Golden Flashes (45-17).
