NEW YORK (AP) — Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks has left Boston’s game against the Yankees after throwing just four pitches in the seventh inning because of an injury.
Working in relief of Jon Lester to start the seventh, Jenks appeared to pull up after throwing ball three to Jorge Posada. Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia went out to the mound and called for help from the dugout. Replays on TV showed Jenks wincing. He apparently said, “my back.”
Manager Terry Francona and trainers checked on Jenks before the right-hander walked off the field.
Matt Albers relieved with a 3-1 count and walked Posada — the free pass was charged to Jenks.
Jenks missed nearly all of May with a right biceps strain. He was activated from the disabled list May 31.
