PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 64-year-old Texas man who fell about 30 feet into a ravine while hiking in the Bridal Veil area of the Columbia River Gorge is reported in critical condition.

Multnomah County, Ore., sheriff’s office spokeswoman Lt. Mary Lindstrand says rescuers recovered Benton Springer of San Marcos, Texas, after his fall Tuesday afternoon. The Oregonian says he was brought to Rooster Rock State Park, where a helicopter picked him up and took him to a Portland hospital.
