COSMOPOLIS, Wash. (AP) — After several weeks of production the Cosmo Specialty Fibers pulp mill in Cosmopolis is preparing to make its first shipment to customers in China.
The Daily World reports the former Weyerhaeuser mill reopened last month to produce a product that is used in the making of plastics and rayon for clothing. The product is cut in sheets about 2-feet-by-3-feet and stacked in 12-feet high bales for shipping. The pulp is made from Northwest hemlock trees.
When Weyerhaeuser operated the mill it produced an acetate pulp used to make cigarette filters.
The Cosmo mill now employs about 200 workers.
