LONDON (AP) — The running of the Bahrain Grand Prix has been put in doubt less than a week since it was reinstated to the 2011 Formula One schedule, with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone saying the race can’t go ahead without approval from the F1 teams.
Anti-government protests in Bahrain led to the event being scrapped as the season opener in March. But the World Motor Sport Council decided the race could be staged on Oct. 30 after authorities lifted a state of emergency last week.
But without the Formula One Teams Association’s backing, the race can’t take place in the Gulf kingdom, where there is continued unrest.
Ecclestone told the BBC on Wednesday that “hopefully we can return in the future, but of course it’s not on. The schedule cannot be rescheduled without the agreement of the participants.”
