MILWAUKEE (AP) — A person with direct knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the Milwaukee Bucks have given the Detroit Pistons permission to interview assistant Kelvin Sampson for their vacant head coaching job.
The person requested anonymity because of the confidential nature of the Pistons’ search.
Sampson has been an assistant to Bucks head coach Scott Skiles since May 2008. Sampson joined Skiles’ staff after his tenure as the head coach at Indiana University ended in scandal.
Yahoo! Sports reported earlier Thursday that the Pistons had permission to speak to Sampson.
Detroit fired coach John Kuester on Sunday.
