SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle woman who survived a July 2009 attack in which her partner was killed says the man on trial “without a doubt” is the person who crept into her home and repeatedly raped and tortured the couple at knifepoint.
The Seattle Times says the woman testified Thursday for a second day in the King County Superior Court trial of Isaiah Kalebu. She described the nearly 90 minutes the women were raped and slashed in their bedroom.
The Associated Press is not identifying her because she is a victim of sexual assault.
The woman’s partner, 39-year-old Teresa Butz, died of her wounds.
Kalebu has a history of mental illness but is not presenting a mental-health defense. He is charged with aggravated murder, attempted murder, rape and burglary in what’s been described as a random attack. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty; he would face life in prison without release if convicted.
