Soler wins 2nd stage of Tour of Switzerland

CRANS-MONTANA, Switzerland (AP) — Juan Mauricio Soler won the second stage of the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday to take the overall lead in the last major warmup for the Tour de France.

The Colombian climbing specialist broke clear in the final half mile to finish in 4 hours, 23 minutes, 20 seconds for the 87-mile mountain stage from Airolo to the Crans-Montana ski resort.

Damiano Cunego of Italy was second, 12 seconds behind, and trails Soler by 16 seconds in the overall standings.

Defending champion Frank Schleck of Luxembourg was third, in the same time as Cunego.

The nine-day event continues Monday with a 66.9-mile trek through mountains from Brig to Grindelwald.
