MONTREAL (AP) — Three-time world champion diver Alexandre Despatie will miss next month’s worlds because of a nagging knee injury.

The Canadian has been sidelined since March with pain in his left knee.

He had been hoping to be healed enough to participate in the 3-meter synchro event in Shanghai, but his knee problems have kept him from returning to a full training schedule.

The 26-year-old Despatie won a silver medal in the 3-meter springboard at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. He won gold in the 1- and 3-meter springboard at the 2005 world championships.
