MADRAS, Ore. (AP) — The Crooked River National Grassland office has been temporarily closed in Madras in central Oregon until the federal government can hire another staff worker.
The Bulletin newspaper in Bend reports there were two people stationed at the district office, but one of them works afternoons in the field, which would have left the other employee alone.
Federal officials say policy is to have two people at the office for security reasons.
About two dozen people work for the Crooked River National Grasslands but many work from the Ochoco National Forest headquarters building in Prineville.
