RUCH, Ore. (AP) — More than a dozen small businesses are helping to build an apartment for a disabled veteran in the southern Oregon town of Ruch (roosh).

The Mail Tribune reports the apartment is a replica of the soldier’s childhood home, a classic Craftsman-style house constructed just before World War I.

The apartment will provide wheelchair access and other features for 20-year-old Cody Smith, whose legs were paralyzed when he was wounded while serving with the Army in Afghanistan last winter.

Smith is A 2009 graduate of South Medford High School where he was a standout football player.

Another Army veteran, Medford building contractor Rush Behnke, helped organize the effort.
