JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — About 200 military police soldiers are returning to Joint Base Lewis-McChord this week after a year in Afghanistan, training Afghan police and providing security in Kandahar City.

The Army says 140 soldiers assigned to the 170th Military Police Company return Thursday and 60 soldiers assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion return Friday.

During its deployment the 504th MP Battalion also refurbished 29 school with wood-burning stoves and other fixtures that allowed children to attend school during the winter months.
