SALEM, Ore. (AP) — More than two-dozen immigrant rights demonstrators staged a sit-in in a Capitol corridor Thursday, pushing for a vote on a bill that would grant in-state tuition to state university students regardless of immigration status.

The Statesman Journal reports the demonstration was organized by the CAUSA coalition outside the office of Rep. Andy Olson of Albany, co-chairman of the House Rules Committee. State troopers stood by.

After a leader of the group said he was promised help in arranging meetings with legislative leaders, the demonstrators said a prayer and dispersed.
