BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Calbert Cheaney is returning to Indiana as the Hoosiers’ new director of basketball operations.
Cheaney returns to his alma mater after spending the last two seasons working with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. Coach Tom Crean made the announcement Saturday during his father/son basketball camp.
Cheaney played 13 seasons in the NBA after being named 1993 national player of the year, Big Ten player of the year and setting the conference scoring record with 2,613 career points.
He was the No. 6 overall pick in the ’93 draft and averaged 9.5 points and 3.2 rebounds while playing with five NBA teams: Washington, Boston, Denver, Utah and Golden State.
