SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon lawmakers are preparing to weigh in on a number of education bills.
House and Senate votes are scheduled Monday on 14 bills that would provide more money for schools, expand access to charter schools allow funding for full-day kindergarten.
The vote is the product of weeks of negotiations between Republicans, Democrats and the governor’s office. Lawmakers agreed to allow votes on the measures, but it’s unclear which have enough support to pass.
Democratic bills would provide about $25 million of additional money for schools, would allow some districts to opt out of education service districts and would make the state schools chief an appointed rather than elected position.
Republican priorities would authorize more online schools, allow colleges to sponsor charter schools and boost their funding.
