KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) — The first class of seven students in the Funeral Services Education program has graduated from Lake Washington Technical College in Kirkland.

Before the program started two years ago, mortuary students had to train out of state to be licensed in Washington.

The Seattle Times reports the program includes business aspects of running a funeral home, the psychology of dealing with grieving family members, the science of embalming and the art of restoring disfigured faces. In one class, students had to sculpt faces in wax. One student used a picture of Conan O’Brien for a model.
