SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Senate has approved four education bills, including one of Gov. John Kitzhaber’s top priorities.
Senators approved the four measures on Monday. They are the first of 14 that are expected to get votes in both chambers of the Legislature Monday.
The Senate approved a Kitzhaber-backed bill that would merge the governance of education from pre-school through college into a single oversight board known as the Education Investment Board. Senators also voted to allow school districts to opt out of education service districts, which centralize some administrative, technical and special curriculum services between multiple school districts.
The House is scheduled to take up the four bills and others later on Monday, including controversial measures expanding access to charter schools and online education.
