OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Officials have started selling passes that will be required to access Washington state parks starting next month.
Agencies said Monday that the so-called Discovery Pass is now for sale online and at recreational license dealers. People must have the pass to access state park and recreation lands beginning in July. That includes access to 120 state parks along with boat launches, heritage sites, wildlife areas and trails.
An annual pass is $30 while a single-day pass is $10. Visitors without a proper pass can face a fine of $99.
Lawmakers created the pass option as a way to fund state parks and prevent them from closing amid budget cuts.
