BOSTON (AP) — The San Diego Padres have put first baseman Brad Hawpe on the 15-day disabled list and optioned left-hander Wade LeBlanc to Triple-A Tucson.
They were among six moves made on Tuesday before the Padres faced the Boston Red Sox.
The Padres called up left-hander Josh Spence from Double-A San Antonio, recalled catcher Kyle Phillips from Tucson, designated outfielder Luis Durango for assignment and requested unconditional release waivers on infielder Jorge Cantu.
Hawpe, batting .231 with four homers and 19 RBIs in 62 games, went on the disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, with a strained middle finger on his right hand.
LeBlanc is 0-2 with a 5.71 ERA in three starts for San Diego. On Monday, he allowed three runs in three innings against Boston.
