Spokane County deputy will not face discipline

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane County sheriff’s deputy who shot a 74-year-old Spokane Valley pastor will face no disciplinary action.

The sheriff’s office has ruled that Deputy Brian Hirzel followed departmental policies and procedures during the fatal Aug. 25 encounter with Wayne Scott Creach.

Wednesday’s decision by Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich disappointed the Creach family. Alan Creach, the pastor’s son, has again called for the sheriff to stop using unmarked cars on private property. The family believes that contributed to the shooting.

Hirzel had already been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing by the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office, and Knezovich’s 12-member Citizen Advisory Board came to the same conclusion.
