SEATTLE (AP) — A Washington State Ferries spokeswoman says a passenger jumped from a ferry and swam to a nearby kayak in what seems to have been a staged event.

Spokeswoman Marta Coursey says it happened Wednesday afternoon aboard the ferry Wenatchee during its run from Seattle to Bainbridge Island. She says the incident was filed, folks are tweeting about it and the kayak was clearly waiting for the passenger.

KOMO says investigators don’t believe the jumper was injured.

Coursey says jumping from a state ferry is illegal, adding it’s dangerous and “not funny.” The Coast Guard and Washington State Patrol are investigating.

The ferry run was delayed by about 15 minutes.
