One high school player on US Under 19

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Jahii Carson of Phoenix, who has signed to play at Arizona State, is the only high school player on USA Basketball’s under-19 world championship team.

Jeremy Lamb of national champion Connecticut and Khyle Marshall of runner-up Butler are also on the 12-man roster that will defend the gold medal in the FIBA U19 World Championship in Latvia from June 30-July 10.

Others announced Thursday were Keith Appling, Michigan State; James Bell, Villanova; Anthony Brown, Stanford; Tim Hardaway Jr., Michigan; Joe Jackson, Memphis; Meyers Leonard, Illinois; Doug McDermott, Creighton; Tony Mitchell, North Texas; and Patric Young, Florida.

Carson, a 5-foot-11 guard, played at Mesa High School in Arizona.

The team will be coached by Paul Hewitt of George Mason.
