LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a tornado has touched down in Louisville near the famed Churchill Downs race track and the University of Louisville campus.

Meteorologist Ryan Sharp says there are reports of debris from Wednesday’s storm in south Louisville. Eyewitnesses said they saw about a dozen power poles downed near the track and university. No reports of possible injuries.

Churchill Downs is where the Kentucky Derby has been run for more than 130 years. It is the first leg of the Triple Crown.

Sharp says there’s also damage reported in the Shively area, west of downtown.

Storm sirens wailed in Kentucky’s largest city as the storm went through.
