Shaw talks to Pacers about coaching position

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former Lakers lead assistant Brian Shaw has spoken to the Indiana Pacers, though it’s unclear what his role might be with the team.

Pacers president Larry Bird has called interim coach Frank Vogel the frontrunner for the head coaching position from the beginning of the search and has never wavered from that position. He said Tuesday that it would help Vogel to bring in a “top assistant.”

Shaw’s agent, Jerome Stanley, confirmed that Shaw has spoken with the club but declined to give details Thursday about what job title Shaw might have.

Shaw was the lead assistant for the Lakers under Phil Jackson, but he was left without a job when Jackson retired and the Lakers hired former Cleveland coach Mike Brown.

The Pacers expect to hire a head coach within the next two weeks.
