ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have signed second baseman Kolten Wong, their first-round pick in the draft earlier this month.
The 5-9, 180-pound Wong was the 22nd overall pick out of Hawaii and had told the franchise he was eager to sign. The team said Saturday he would report to Class A Quad Cities on Monday.
Wong batted .378 last season as a junior with seven home runs and 53 RBIs in 57 games, plus was MVP of the Cape Cod League last summer and played on U.S. national team in 2008.
