MOSCOW (AP) — The top Russian organizer of the 2018 World Cup says an anti-racism campaign will be launched in preparation for hosting the event.
The problem came to the spotlight this week when Brazilian Roberto Carlos left the field in protest after a banana was thrown at him during a league match.
The head of Russia’s 2018 World Cup Organizing Committee, Alexei Sorokin, said Friday at a soccer forum in Moscow that the issue is “very difficult to control.” But the Russian Football Union is preparing to enact an anti-racism campaign memorandum.
