CHICAGO (AP) — White Sox left-hander John Danks has been placed on the disabled list after leaving his start against the Washington Nationals with a strained right oblique muscle.

The White Sox called up left-hander Hector Santiago from Double-A Birmingham on Sunday.

Danks is 3-8 with a 4.21 ERA but had won three straight starts before he was forced out of Saturday’s game after 1 2-3 innings. He’s on the disabled list for the first time.

The White Sox have been using a six-man rotation but might switch to a five-man rotation with Danks sidelined. Santiago is in his first season as a starter and has gone a combined 6-5 with a 4.08 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 14 outings with Birmingham and Class-A Winston-Salem.
