SEATTLE (AP) — Democratic Rep. Jay Inslee is beginning his bid for governor, launching a campaign season that is expected to cost leading candidates millions of dollars.
Inslee will officially begin his campaign Monday morning in Seattle and hold a second event in the Yakima Valley later in the day. He has planned additional campaign stops in Tacoma, Vancouver and Spokane on Tuesday.
Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna has already declared his candidacy, meaning Washington will have fresh options on the ballot after two consecutive races between Gov. Chris Gregoire and Republican Dino Rossi.
Inslee has represented Washington’s 1st Congressional District since 1999, becoming a national leader in promoting clean energy.
