West Vancouver — Patrick Meyer, a 2007 graduate of the Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, won first place in the open finger-picking division of the Utah State Instrument Championships in early June in Ogden, Utah. Meyer, who is attending Evergreen State College in Olympia, won an Eastman 508 guitar and a paid entry into competition at the Winfield, Kan., International Finger Style Competition on Sept. 14-19. Meyer composed “Clayton’s Song” and “Etude in B Minor” to win the competition. After studying music, performing arts and mathematics for two years at Evergreen State, he took six months away from school to concentrate on writing and performing guitar in the Vancouver-Portland area.
