In regards to Neal Brenner’s and Ruth Wagner’s June 23 letter, “Pure anti-Semitism initiated,” a circumcision ban is not anti-Semitic. Any proposed ban on circumcision should have a religious exception. Circumcision should be purely a religious procedure, not a medical one. Non-Jewish parents routinely circumcise for unnecessary and cosmetic reasons so Johnny can “look like his daddy.”
Colorado should be commended for ending Medicaid coverage for routine circumcisions. Taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for this unless they also want to pay for Susie’s nose job when she joins the cheerleading squad.
Jews might want to consider supporting a ban with a religious exception.
