EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning remains optimistic that a new collective bargaining agreement will be reached and there will be an NFL season.

In a rare interview since the lockout began in March, Manning says he has avoided discussing the labor issue because he didn’t have much to say and wanted to stay out of trouble.

However, he is encouraged by recent talks between the owners and players.

Manning spent most of the time in his telephone interview with The Associated Press talking about his recent acting with his brother, Peyton. The two appeared in a video to promote DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket in which they play former players turned “Football Cops.”
