Lingering snowpacks are prompting officials to offer lower-elevation activities at the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

Windy Ridge is a popular site, but with the road covered with snow, an alternative is the Lahar Viewpoint in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Lahar Viewpoint is offering “Eruption Talks,” which explain the 1980 eruption and how it has changed the way volcanoes are studied globally.

The talks will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. starting July 2 at the Lahar Viewpoint on Forest Road 83. For more information call 360-449-7800.
