BEND, Ore. (AP) — A central Oregon recreational vehicle dealer in Bend says he’s cautiously optimistic that 2011 will finally show some real improvement for the industry.

Chris Jackson is co-owner and general manager of Beaver Coach Sales & Service in Bend. He told The Bulletin newspaper he’s been working hard to steer the company through tough times by getting the staff involved in creating a leaner, more efficient business model.

Beaver Coach sales increased every year, peaking between 2003 and 2006 at about 100 new motor coaches and another 100 used RVs per year.

Sales fell about 75 percent in 2008 and 2009, forcing the dealership to cut nearly half its staff.

Jackson says the steep drop has not been followed by a sharp increase, but he’s seeing some slight improvement.
