Camas residents have until July 15 to apply for the city’s vacant council position.

Veteran Councilman Scott Higgins resigned his Ward No. 3 position Monday night after the council appointed him the city’s new mayor. Higgins replaced former mayor Paul Dennis, who resigned to head the Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association.

Applicants must file applications with city staff by 5 p.m. July 15. The council will appoint a new member during a special meeting on July 25. The term runs through Dec. 5.

The seat will once again be up for election in November.

Ward No. 3 encompasses an area near Lacamas and Fallen Leaf lakes and Fire Station No. 42.

Those interested in applying can visit http://www.ci.camas.wa.us or call Camas City Administrator Lloyd Halverson at 360-817-1541.
