EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Antonio Huerta Cruz of Springfield was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for killing his former girlfriend.

The Register Guard reports 45-year-old Teresa Sandoval was strangled in July and left with a rope around her neck outside her home in Springfield. Cruz has been threatening her since their breakup and confessed to the killing.

The 34-year-old Cruz will be eligible for parole after 25 years. Sandoval’s family said they’ll be back in court then to testify against his release.
