Seaside transit center plans dropped

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) — Plans to build an over $3 million transit center in Seaside were dropped after the transportation district was unable to secure enough matching dollars to accept a federal grant.

Ron Bline, board chairman of the Sunset Empire Transit District, told the Daily Astorian Tuesday that his board refused a $3.04 million grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The grant, approved in August, required a match of at least $760,000, money the district now says it does not have.

Former district Director Cindy Howe, who resigned in January, previously said the transit district had secured more than half of the needed funds.

Since she left her position, the transit board reviewed their finances and found there was nowhere near enough money to move forward with the project.
