TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Jered Weaver allowed one run and two hits in two innings Tuesday, helping the Los Angeles Angels beat a Cincinnati Reds’ split squad 2-1.

Weaver struck out two and walked none, allowing an RBI single in the first to NL MVP Joey Votto. Weaver was 13-12 with a 3.01 ERA last year and figures to be the Angels’ opening-day starter.

Reds starter Johnny Cueto allowed two runs and two hits in three innings, hitting Erick Aybar and Peter Bourjos with pitches.
