ATLANTA (AP) — Kirk Hinrich is making his first start for the Hawks in his first home game in Atlanta, but the team is without injured forward Josh Smith against the Chicago Bulls.

Smith is having an MRI on his right knee on Wednesday night. He hurt his knee in Tuesday night’s loss at Denver and the team said he suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament.

The Hawks acquired Hinrich from Washington in a five-player trade last week as the team was playing seven straight road games.

Hinrich is starting with Joe Johnson in the backcourt. He was a reserve in his first two games with the Hawks as Jeff Teague started at point guard.

Jason Collins is starting for Smith.
