SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Melvin Johnson III scored 20 points and Devin Gibson added 18 as UTSA defeated Central Arkansas 70-58 Wednesday night.
Stephen Franklin had 15 points for the Roadrunners (15-13, 8-7 Southland), who never trailed and held the Bears to 32.2 percent shooting.
Ryan Williams scored 19 points to lead Central Arkansas (5-23, 1-14), which lost its ninth straight. Mark Rutledge finished with 15 points.
After trailing by as much as 14, the Bears pulled within 58-52 with 6:27 to play after back-to-back layups by Rutledge. Franklin then hit a 3-pointer to stop the surge, and UTSA led by at least seven the rest of the way.
Johnson and Gibson each scored 10 points in the first half as the Roadrunners took a 33-27 lead into intermission.
