BEND, Ore. (AP) — A prosecutor in central Oregon says he will return public records to The Bulletin newspaper in Bend after some personal information is removed.

Deschutes County District Attorney Patrick Flaherty convened a grand jury this week to look into the release of job applications submitted by nine people hired by his office.

Some of the applications include driver’s license numbers and home addresses, which Flaherty contends cannot be publicly released under Oregon law.

The Bulletin reported that Flaherty changed course on Wednesday, now saying he wants the newspaper to return the documents solely for the purpose of removing protected and confidential information.

A letter Flaherty sent the paper on Jan. 24 demanded the documents and did not offer to return them to The Bulletin after they were redacted.
