TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Jake Peavy pitched two scoreless innings for the Chicago White Sox on Friday against the Angels in his first outing since ripping his right shoulder last season.
The 2007 NL Cy Young winner struck out two, walked one and reached 92 mph with his fastball.
Dozens of White Sox fans seated near the third-base dugout gave Peavy a standing ovation when he finished. He had not pitched in a game since he sustained a detached muscle in his shoulder against the Angels last July 6.
Peavy said he was relieved and pleased after throwing 26 pitches against Los Angeles.
