ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) — “Vertical evacuation” is the term the state Emergency Management Agency has been using in meetings at Washington coastal communities to plan for a tsunami.
It means find a tall building or high ground.
The agency’s John Schilling tells KBKW that Westport and Ocean shores are very vulnerable. It’s estimated they’ll have about a half-hour warning for wave surge that could be 15 to 30 feet high.
The latest meeting is scheduled for Friday night in Westport, at the Chateau Westport motel.
