Fordham edges Massachusetts 77-73

NEW YORK (AP) — Brenton Butler scored 29 points and Fordham beat Massachusetts 77-73 on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams to snap a 41-game Atlantic 10 Conference losing streak.

Fordham, whose largest lead was 56-43 with 10:57 to play, led 71-61 with 1:37 remaining. But the Minutemen used a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 74-71 at the 27-second mark before Butler sealed it with two free throws 7 seconds later.

Chris Gaston had his 17th double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Lamount Samuell added 11 points for the Rams (7-21, 1-15), who snapped a 17-game losing streak.

UMass made 20 of 32 free throw attempts, but was held to 37.7 percent shooting (23 of 61) from the field.

Anthony Gurley scored 30 points, Javorn Farrell had 11 and Terrell Vinson had 10 points and 10 rebounds for UMass (15-14, 7-8), which has lost three straight games.
