Mississippi State beats South Carolina 60-58

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Ravern Johnson scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers, Kodi Augustus added 15 and Mississippi State held on for a 60-58 victory over South Carolina on Saturday.

Johnson, a senior, made 7 of 13 from 3-point range on Senior Day and Renardo Sidney added 13 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.

Mississippi State (17-13, 9-7 Southeastern Conference) led 53-40 with 5:30 remaining, but South Carolina went on a 19-5 run to cut the lead to 59-58 with 25.6 seconds remaining.

Malik Cooke and Bruce Ellington both scored 15 points to lead the Gamecocks. Ellington missed a contested 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won the game.

South Carolina (14-15, 5-11) shot 23 of 64 (35.9 percent) from the field.
