SEATTLE (AP) — The King County Sheriff’s Office says it has found the body of a missing 12-year-old girl in a wooded area of Sammamish.

Sgt. Rodney Chinnick says the girl’s friend called authorities last week to report that she had sent suicidal text messages. He says her parents reported that she was a chronic runaway.

Deputies were unable to find the girl after searching the Klahanie area and trying to trace the girl’s location using cell phone information.

On Sunday, a sheriff’s detective working off-duty in the area found the girl’s body. Chinnick says her death does not appear to be the result of a crime.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the results of the autopsy.
