ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Xavier junior guard Tu Holloway on Monday was named player of the year by the coaches in the Atlantic 10.

Holloway’s coach, Chris Mack, who led the Musketeers to the regular-season championship, was named coach of the year.

Duquesne, the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament despite being chosen eighth in the preseason poll, took home two awards. Freshman guard T.J. McConnell was named rookie of the year, and senior forward Damian Saunders took top defensive player honors.

Also, Temple forward Scootie Randall is the league’s most improved player, and his teammate, guard Khalif Wyatt, was voted the top sixth man.

The tournament begins on campus sites Tuesday, before shifting to Boardwalk Hall for the quarterfinals on Friday. Xavier, Temple, Richmond and Duquesne have first-round byes.
