KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Baylor freshman Perry Jones has been declared ineligible by the NCAA and will not play in the Bears’ Big 12 Conference tournament opener.

Baylor was informed Wednesday, only hours before the Bears were set to play Oklahoma, that Jones is ineligible.

The NCAA has been investigating whether Jones or his family received preferential treatment or benefits from an AAU coach before he arrived at Baylor.

Baylor immediately appealed to have Jones’ eligibility reinstated.

Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw says he is “profoundly disappointed” in the timing and determination by the NCAA.
